A Simple Way to Decide

In practice the answer usually falls out of three questions.

Do you have a foundry, or a foundry you already buy from?

If yes, buying the mould is almost always cheaper over the life of the part. You are already paying for casting capacity; the only thing you are missing is the tooling. If no, tooling is an asset you cannot use, and finished parts are the sensible route.

How many parts will you need over the next three years?

Tooling is a fixed cost recovered across everything you cast from it. For a part you replace several times a year across a fleet of pumps, that cost is recovered quickly. For a one-off replacement, it never is.

Do you need to control the alloy or elastomer yourself?

Operators running unusually abrasive or corrosive slurries often want to trial material grades against their own duty conditions. That is far easier when you hold the tooling and can change compound between pours without renegotiating a supply contract.

What is the difference between buying a mould and buying finished parts?

A mould, or pattern, is the tooling used to produce parts. Buy the mould and you own the tooling and cast the parts yourself — paying once for tooling, then only material and casting on every part afterwards. Buy finished parts and we produce them on our own tooling and ship components ready to fit, with no tooling investment on your side.

Can I have moulds made in China and cast the parts at my own foundry?

Yes — this is one of the two routes we are set up for. We manufacture the mould or foundry pattern to your drawing, verify it by trial, and ship the tooling to your foundry, whether that is in your own country or an OEM foundry you already use in China.

Who owns the mould after it is paid for?

When you pay for tooling, the tooling is yours. We ship it to you, or hold it in our works for your production only, whichever you prefer. We do not use customer-owned tooling for other buyers, and drawings supplied to us are treated as confidential.

What do you need in order to quote?

A drawing in PDF, DWG, DXF or STEP is ideal. We can also work from a physical sample by reverse engineering, or from a clear photograph with key dimensions. We will need the material grade, the quantity, and whether you want the casting as-cast or fully machined. An initial quotation normally follows within one to two working days.

What is the typical lead time?

Typically 25 to 30 working days from drawing approval, depending on tooling size and complexity. Simple pattern work can be faster; large multi-part moulds for pump bodies take longer. Finished parts produced on tooling we already hold ship considerably sooner, because there is no tooling stage.

Do you supply parts interchangeable with major slurry pump brands?

We manufacture to customer drawing or to a supplied sample, including replacement wear components dimensionally interchangeable with widely used slurry pump ranges. We are an independent manufacturer and are not affiliated with, authorised by or endorsed by any pump OEM; brand names are referenced only to describe fitment.

What materials can the parts be cast in?

Wet-end wear components are commonly produced in high-chrome white iron, natural rubber and other elastomers such as NBR, EPDM and SBR, or castable polyurethane. Structural components such as brackets, pump bodies and covers are produced in grey iron, ductile iron or cast steel by resin sand casting. Material selection depends on slurry abrasiveness, particle size, pH and duty.

What are your commercial terms?

EXW northern China by default, with other Incoterms available by agreement. Payment is normally 30% T/T deposit with the balance before shipment. Goods are packed in export-grade fumigated wooden crates, and we supply packing list, commercial invoice and certificate of origin as standard.
